Suso University Rites of Passage

I am proud to announce the first organization selection for the month of January’s “12 Months of Kindness” fundraising initiative: Suso University Rites of Passage Program. This organization is near and dear to my heart as it is located in my hometown of Troy, Alabama. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the program run by Mitchell Sneed, whose mission is to strengthen and nurture children mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically. Suso University immerses children in various social, economic, agricultural, political, health and computer science programs to broaden their horizons and shape them for a successful future. This program helps kids from the ages of 8 to 18 receive mentoring while taking part in classes and community service activities to build them into well-rounded young men.

August: Anne Arundel County CASA - Amount Raised $700

Anne Arundel County CASA

In 1993, a handful of local attorneys recognized the need for a CASA program in Anne Arundel County. With the support from the local Bar Association, the Circuit Court, and the Department of Social Services, Anne Arundel County CASA, Inc. (AACCASA) was incorporated. AACCASA began serving children in July 1997. With a small staff of six professionals, we rely on volunteers to achieve our mission.

CASA advocates for and supports abused and neglected children who are involved in juvenile court proceedings to ensure their right to safe, stable, permanent homes. AACCASA achieves this mission through the work of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA volunteers are an active part of the child’s team that is working toward ensuring that the child has a safe, stable and permanent home.

November: World Central Kitchen - Amount Raised $825

World Central Kitchen

WCK uses the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies through times of crisis and beyond.

In 2010, José Andrés and his wife had a big dream to start World Central Kitchen. They envisioned an organization that would use food to empower communities and strengthen economies, and for many years they saw an amazing impact through their clean cookstoves initiative, culinary training programs, and social enterprise ventures. But they had no idea we would one day be answering calls in Puerto Rico and around the world to serve meals in the aftermath of disaster – and they quickly learned that food is a powerful tool to heal communities in times of crisis and beyond.

With your help, they have shown that there is no place too far or disaster too great for their chefs to be there with a hot plate of food when it’s needed most.

I hope you’ll dream with them as they envision a world where there is always a hot meal, an encouraging word, and a helping hand in hard times. Thank you for taking this journey with us.

Wherever there’s a fight so hungry people may eat, we will be there – we must be there.
